What's the difference between these and another rod (XPS Extreme; something like that)? Anyone use em'? What'd you think? I throw a lot of crankbaits and jerbaits, so would it be a good investment? Thanks a lot guys

the crankin stick is made of what they call composite, which basically just means its graphite and fiberglass together. that gives you a slower action rod so you dont rip the trebles out when you set the hook. i LOVE mine, well i actually have 3 of them now because i throw a ton of crankbaits, but they work for jerkbaits and topwaters pretty well too IMO.

Took the words outta my mouth. I have 3 and looking at my 4th. Excellent rods for the money. Light and as sensitive as you'd need for fishing crankbaits.

6' M for small shallow running cranks, Pointer 78s, small topwater
6'6" M for traps and shallow to mid deep cranks, large jerkbaits
7' M for semi-deep divers and ripping traps in the grass, Spooks
Thinking of a 7'6" M for DEEP diving cranks like DT16 and DD22's.....I hardly EVER throw the big ones but it's a good excuse to buy a new rod!!!!

I read the reviews on the BPS Crankin' stick, and the guy recommended Dave Fritts signiture series crankin' sticks, by American Rodsmiths. Anyone used these. Good manufacturer and more expensive, but I know that doesn't always mean better. Anyone have any input? I'm not lookin' for tournament grade, just somein' to get the job done with efficiency.

I really like the Crankin sticks. I have two a 7M for crankbaits and a 7MH for lipless crankbaits. They are great rods for the money and last years version is on clearance right now.

i have a 6'M that i bought for small jerkbaits and topwater poppers/prop baits but its too short for my taste so i dont use it much. 7'M smaller shallow cranks(RC 1.5, ect),topwater, jerkbaits 7'MH larger shallow/medium cranks(bagley B2 or 3, RC DD series, ect)
dont get fooled into thinkin expensive is always better. i havent used the american rodsmiths, but id DEFINATLY buy another crankin stick before i tried one

I have a couple St Croix Premier glass crankbait rods and I cant wait to compare them to the crankin stick
Let us know. I'm looking at a All Star rod that has some amazing flexibilty that I think would be awesome for cb's.

It's important to note that the crankin' stick changed this year. It's still a composite, but they went ahead and "laid in quality IM-6 graphite throughout--for more consistent vibration transmission". While this may create a truer feel, it gives the rod a faster and stiffer action. This may be fine for some anglers, but for crankbaits, rods are usually more flexible or slower actioned in order to give the fish a split second longer to inhale those trebles. If you can I would buy last years model, I think the new "innovating upgrade" is a detriment to the art of crankbaiting and BPS lossed my future crankin' stick purchase.

I ve got three bps crankin sticks and three american rodsmiths fritts rods all in various lengths. bps sticks are nice but in my opion you cant beat true fiberglass, for cranking. bps sticks seem to be to stiff compared to the fiberglass fritts rods. bps sticks seem to get left in the basement when the boat leaves in favor of the fritts rods. just my opion. Ok, well if they did change it, where can I find last years model on the website. Every crankin stick I saw mentioned strengthened IM6. Link please?

I've stuck with my 30 yr old Browning Silaflex rods and for a faster retrieve with cranks or backtrolling for salmon, they give me everything I need.
I have one 2006 BPS Cranking'Stick, pistol handle, 6'6", 14# line... Like it a lot, but I've rigged it for light-casting spinners & worm trailer, unweighted plastics and foam frogs, cast from shore.
Cheers!

also, the rods in the david fritts/crankin'stick combo are the old style still, but you have to buy them with the fritts reel, which I have heard is an awesome crankbait reel anyway.
