Anybody ever use them? I haven't, but from what I've read, they have their advantages.
I might go this route...all you do is add tippet to the loop (or ring) on the end of the furled leader. All you need is one leader...you don't have to buy additional leaders. The furled leader remains the same lenght the entire life...worth $10-$15 dollars if you ask me.
I'll probably order one soon.
Cheers,
Robert

I ordered a furled leader for my five weight (my most used rod) to test, if I like it I値l order one each for the 8wt and 3wt. Ordered the regular mono with a ring may get one with the swivel for the 3wt as it will be used mostly in moving water, where I tend to roll buggers down the riffles a lot (twist city). Hopefully I値l be able to write a post on my impressions in a couple of weeks.

Imade my first furled leader last night...they are fairly easy to make. I used 14 lb Stren.
The key I discovered is to use a large diameter spool to lessen the memory...I used line from a small diameter spool and it was difficult even after stretching it!
Cheers,
Robert

Finally got the chance to try out the furled leader I had ordered. My first impression was favorable, it is woven very tight which should help durability; the ring is very tiny and should not drag down even the smallest fly. I went to the pond at the local park to try it out. It turns over well (I was using a fairly large bug #6) lands very softly to. One thing I really like is that it has a lot of friction on the pickup and loads the rod well. I most certainly will be ordering two more for my 8wt and 3wt.

As I stated above I ordered a furled leader for my 5wt liked it and ordered one each for the 3wt and 8wt. As I now have furled leaders on all my rods and have been using them for a while I can give a much better review. First I値l address the economics. Even though I have used the 3wt an average of three days a week for several weeks now I see no signs of wear and have little doubt that the leader will last the season in fact may well last more than one season. Even at the $13 cost I値l be well ahead overall. Next I値l address function. The thing casts beautifully and tends to turn over well even on a bad cast (yes I know you all have a hard time believing I ever make a bad cast). They seem to resistant to line twist, I ordered the 3wt leader with a swivel rather than a ring but they were apparently out of stock and sent a nymping leader ( two toned and extra-long) but twist has not been a problem. They land very softly on the water and pick up with slightly more resistance helping load the rod. I値l conclude by saying that I highly recommend this type of leader and doubt I値l ever use the standard type again. For those interested in trying this type of leader they are available from Feathercraft where I bought mine and Cabala痴, I知 not aware of other sources but there may well be.

Thanks for the review, will have to order some up for myself specially for the eight weight, I normally tie my own leaders, but the heavier ones are just a pain in the butt

You can build a jig to make your own furled leaders. Once you get the hang of it, it actually takes longer to string the jig up than it does to twist the leader. Ask you local fly-fishing friends. They may have a set-up to make furled leaders, and might be willing to make one for cheap/free.
I got mine from a friend for free.
